There is no place like Madrid. Rich in culture, history, and delicious tapas, this city is one of my favorites. I've been able to spend a good amount of time in Madrid these past few years, with study abroad and trips back to visit friends. There is so much to do and see (and eat!) in Madrid, so here are my top picks:

1. Mercado de San Miguel
- If food is what you're after, be sure to check out the best market in Madrid! Mercado de San Miguel is a vibrant place where Spaniards meet for fresh tapas, drinks, and socializing. The options are endless so get ready to eat!

2. Plaza Mayor
- Once you've had enough to eat, take a wander down to the Plaza Mayor. Just a 5 minute walk from the market, it's a great place to people watch and take in the Spanish way of life. It's especially beautiful during Christmas.

3. Real Madrid
- When in Madrid, there's no way you can miss catching a Real Madrid game! I've gone to see RM play in Madrid three times and now I root for them as my "team." If you can, go to a game in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu stadium and see why football is a huge part of Spanish life!

¡Hala Madrid!
4. Parque Del Retiro
- Once a park for the Spanish royal family, Parque Del Retiro reminds me a little of the Spanish version of Versailles. Words don't do this place justice so I'll let the pictures do the talking!

Palace of Crystal

As you can see, Madrid is a must if you're in Europe. Besides the places listed above, there are many more: the Royal Palace, Plaza del Sol, Plaza de Cibeles, and the world-famous Prado Museum. Feel free to send me any questions on more things to see and do in Spain's capital!

  1. Ah, I studied abroad in Spain, and those are some of my favorite places! Thank you for sharing!

    1. Spain will always have a piece of my heart! I still want to travel within Spain a ton! Thanks for stopping by :)
