WEDDING PLANNING: LOCATION, LOCATION

When Lee and I first got engaged, one of the big questions we got from friends and family was..."Where are you going to have the wedding?" No, they weren't asking about this venue or that, they wanted to know which country our wedding would be in!
We had a lot to think about when choosing a location; did we want it in America? London? Maybe in Taiwan since half my family is there? Trying to figure out the perfect solution for everyone seemed impossible, so I knew we had to come up with a way to decide! Here's what we did:

1) List the pros and cons of each location- Consider every detail you can think of like hotel costs in both locations for guests, venue hire rates, prices of flights, etc. Putting together a list really helped Lee and I to compare and pick the best option.

2) Decide how much stress you're willing to take on- For us, a London wedding would've been the most convenient because it's where we live. An American wedding meant a lot of planning over the web and not always being available to meet with vendors or fix issues in person. If you accept the potential of more stress, then a destination wedding should be no problem!

3) Realize that you can't make everyone happy - At the end of the day, it's your day. Don't get so caught up in the little details that you forget about your own happiness. Basically, follow your heart!

Ultimately, Lee and I decided that North Carolina was our place and I couldn't be more excited! It just feels right getting married in my home state!
Brides, how did you decide on a location or venue?

Xoxo,
Karen

  6. Congratulations on picking a location - that's a big decision you both made. Nice job on making a pros/cons list - sounds like it was effective in helping you lock in the best solution overall. You're right that it's hard to please everyone, so it's smart to have a balanced perspective. I know you will try your best to be thoughtful of your guests while still maintaining your wishes. You are the bride, and ultimately, everyone wants to see you happy. Happy wedding planning! If you need help with anything, please feel free to reach out!

I love your blog - it's my relaxation time to see what you've been up to with a cup of coffee while the kids are in school! ;)
